Single off Elzhi's 2016 sophomore album Lead Poison featuring production from Karriem Riggins, 14KT, Oh No, Quelle Chris, Nick Speed and more.
I made this beat February of 2012. I remember it was a really cold, snowy day in Ypsilanti and I was thinking alot about my pops who passed away in February a year prior. The piano sounded like winter to me and had a contemplative feel to it, so I actually named the beat "February". I didnt know what to do with the beat, but I knew someone who might.
I was catching up with Elzhi over the phone, talking about life, and I think he had just finished recording Elmatic, so I sent him the joint to see what he thought. A month later, I was in a Meijer store off Carpenter Rd (my favorite store in the midwest) and El called me like, "yooo..check out what I wrote.." - he spit some of the verse over the phone. It hit me in the heart when Elzhi wrote the line "this around the same time my nigga pops died.." Everytime i hear that line I think about my father.
After overwhelming success of his album Elmatic, his album Lead Poison was named Apple Music's number 1 album of 2016!!
Elzhi doesn't get his flowers enough, but I hope one day the world will truly recognize and admire how incredible, visual, creative, and prolific this brother's mind is. Elzhi will always be one of my favorite emcees ever!!
