Historical moment for the AML crew!!
The Mic League celebrates the opening of Story, Word, Sound, Sway (SWSS) an 11 person exhibition of black alumni at the University of Michigan Penny Stamps Gallery in Ann Arbor. Co-curated by Jennifer Junkermeier-Khan and Moteniola Ogundipe the show includes an installation by Mic League member Wes Taylor aka Vital, titled Ann Arbor Undercommons.
Ann Arbor Undercommons is an ongoing archival project of Ann Arbor Hip Hop. In it's first and current configuration Wes has called on fellow Mic League member JamallBufford, as head archivist to display the entire Athletic Mic League catalogue in the gallery. With the help of the entire AML crew's combined collections more than 90 artifacts are on display including CD’s, rare 7” singles, LPs, flyers, video games, figurines, posters, photos, and other historic ephemera.⠀
The exhibition goes from January 18, 2021 – February 28, 2021. Because of COVID19 the exhibit is not open to the public unless you are an U-M MCard holder. It goes online January 26. Throughout the time the show is up we will be highlighting different aspects of the exhibition and generating new surprise content including film, writing, and music. ⠀
